Handy Home Hints

Forever loyal

Keep all your customer loyalty cards together by punching a hole in the corner and putting them on a key ring. (Don’t punch through the magnetic strip or bar code!).

No more stinky shoes

Pop a couple of unused teabags into smelly shoes for a day or two to get rid of the bad odours.

Clean your keyboard with a Post-it

Run the sticky edge of a Post-it note between the keys on your keyboard to collect trapped debris.

Un-shrink it

If you’ve had a clothes-shrinking accident, try soaking the item in a bucket of warm water with a good squeeze of hair conditioner dissolved in it. Leave it for 15 minutes, then place the item flat on a towel and gently stretch it back to shape as it dries.

3 uses for pool noodles

  1. Hanging trousers - Fit a piece of pool noodle around trouser hangers to prevent fold-marks during storage.
  2. Keep boots upright - A section of pool noodle placed inside tall boots will keep them upright and wrinkle-free.
  3. Fill that mop bucket - Place the mop bucket on the floor and use the pool noodle to funnel water into it from the kitchen tap.

Tender steaks

Tenderise meat by marinating it in fresh pineapple juice for 20 minutes.

Keep it together

Keep a laundry basket in the boot of your car to put the grocery shopping in. No more cans escaping and rolling everywhere!

Clear the fog

A bit steamy? Use a hair dryer to defog your bathroom mirror in seconds.
