Handy Home Hints

Sports Ball Storage

Fed up of tripping over footballs? Keep the family’s sports balls organised by storing them all together in a laundry basket. Drill holes in the bottom to allow rainwater to escape if the basket is stored outside.

Remove burnt food from steel pans

Remove as much burnt food as possible, then pour a cup of boiling water into the pan and add 2 tbs of bi-carb. Allow to soak for 30 minutes. The burnt layer will come off easily.

DIY Lego Table

Glue lego baseplates onto a small side table for a great lego play zone. Store the lego underneath in boxes with wheels so they slide in and out easily.

Use a second table to make a track for cars using black self-adhesive film .

Great Guestrooms

If you’ve set up a room for guests to sleep in, spend a night there yourself before they arrive. This way you can see if there are any issues such as lumpy pillows, noisy fans or too much light coming through the curtains.

Items that make your guests feel welcome:

  • Box of tissues
  • Small dustbin
  • Laundry basket
  • Reading lamps
  • Selection of reading material
  • Maps and brochures of local attractions
  • Spare blankets and pillows
  • Towels
  • Basket of toiletries
  • Basket of snacks and water
  • Mirror
  • Notecard with WiFi information
  • Travel adaptor for overseas guests

Extra Kitchen Grip

If your fingers are not as dextrous as they used to be, keep a pair of rubber-handled longnose pliers in the kitchen drawer. They are useful for grasping ring pulls or opening small packets that are hard to grip.
