Handy Home Hints

Create more space

To save space on your washing line, hang socks and other smalls on a wire coat hanger.

Easy freezer access

Organise your chest freezer using different coloured crates or baskets. For easy access, sort the contents into colour categories - such as blue for chicken, green for fruit & veggies etc.

Clean & fresh sponges

Pop dishwashing sponges and brushes in your dishwasher with each load to keep them fresh and clean.

Keep caterpillars away

Keep pesky caterpillars off your veggies with a simple homemade spray - 2 cups of water mixed with 2 spoons of hot chilli powder. Spray every few weeks and after heavy rainfall.

3 things to do the night before

  1. Lay out yours and the kids' clothes so there’s no rushing around to find things.
  2. Pack work or school bags with everything you need for the day.
  3. Prepare breakfast the night before – make pancake batter, overnight oats or simply get all the bowls and cereal lined up on the bench.

Vacuum hard-to-reach places

Fix an empty paper towel roll to the end of your vacuum cleaner and bend or flatten it, to squeeze into difficult spots like behind your fridge or bookcases.

Mid-week time saver

Freeze cooked sauces in large ziplock bags and lay flat on a baking tray. Once frozen, simply store upright or flat in your freezer to save space. They will also defrost faster for quick and easy mid-week meals.

No more mould

Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not go mouldy!
