Why tiles?

Tiles are a stylish and practical choice for any home. Apart from looking beautiful, tiles are tough and have a longer life compared to other materials used for floor and wall coverings.

  • Easy to clean
  • Low maintenance
  • Tiles can last a lifetime
  • They are an excellent choice for wet areas
  • Tiles are fireproof and don’t give off toxic fumes

Tiles are also versatile. From ceramic, to porcelain, to vinyl, the design possibilities are endless with a huge range of colours, shapes, and patterns.

With such a huge choice available, making a decision can be difficult. Alex will be happy to have a chat and offer help and advice on the right tiling solution for your home and your budget.

The difference between rectified and conventional tiles

When you are deciding which tiles to use, the choice can be overwhelming. One of the first decisions you should make is whether or not to use rectified tiles.

Rectified tiles are ceramic or porcelain tiles that have been precisely ground and machined to give them near-perfect straight edges and exact dimensions. These tiles provide a very clean, symmetrical look, and allow for extremely fine grout lines of 3mm or less. This creates a very clean, seamless and symmetrical look.

Conventional, non-rectified tiles are called cushion-edged, soft-edged or pillow-edged and aren’t as sharp or prone to chipping around the edges.

The advantages of rectified tiles are that they allow for a thin grout line, are very straight and square, creating a sleek and seamless look. On the downside, they are a little more expensive, more complicated to lay and can be easily chipped.

Bathroom waterproofing

Of all the rooms in your house, you will need the bathroom to be the most waterproof. If this isn’t done properly, it can lead to all sorts of problems from mould infestations to water seeping into the walls and floors.

Alex is registered and qualified to carry out all waterproofing works. He will install a waterproof barrier around the walls and floor in your bathroom, to protect the structure of your house from moisture. This can prevent major structural damage from leaks, which can be very expensive to repair. He is fully insured and uses only the best materials to leave you confident with the work carried out.
