3 tips to get the best return from your solar panels

Perth is the sunniest capital and with summer on its way, it’s a great time to install solar power. You’ll get free energy from the sun during the day and get paid for any power you don’t use that’s fed back into the grid!

The buyback scheme has changed, so here’s what you need to know.

Any new residential solar power systems installed in WA receive the new DEBS (Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme).

You’ll receive 3 cents for each kilowatt-hour of solar electricity fed into the grid before 3pm and 10 cents for each kilowatt-hour from 3pm to 9pm.

So, it’s best to use your free energy before 3pm and get the higher rate for any energy you don’t use.

Here are 3 things you can do to make the most of your free energy:

  1. Run your pool pump in the mornings/early afternoon
  2. Run your aircon during the day to cool the house down. This is also great if you’ve got uni students studying from home all day.
  3. Set the timer on your dishwasher and washing machine to run in the morning if you’re not home.
