How to clean your oven

Before you start cleaning make sure your oven is cold (and if it is electric, make sure the main switch is off).

Method 1

Oven racks

  • Take the racks out of the oven and remove any gunk and stuck-on food.
  • Put them in a large container (such as a large, plastic storage container) with your preferred cleaning solution. Leave them overnight or for at least 5 to 6 hours.
  • Remove the racks and scrub them with hot soapy water to remove any remaining residue. Rinse and dry.

Oven interior

  • Remove all the loose bits of food and other gunk.
  • Apply your preferred cleaning solution as per the instructions. Leave it for the required time.
  • Use a non-scratch scourer to start scrubbing the grime and grease.
  • Use a damp cloth to wipe down the oven.
  • If the oven still has any grime and residue, repeat the process.  Once you are happy, leave the oven door open and allow to dry.

Glass door

  • Open the door so it lays flat and remove any loose grime.
  • Apply your cleaning product of choice as per the instructions.
  • Scrub the glass gently with a sponge and use an old toothbrush to reach into the corners.
  • Wipe with a damp cloth and then dry with a dry cloth.
  • Don’t try to clean in between the glass in the oven door. You may break the oven door and will have to pay for another one.

Method 2

  • Call your local oven cleaning professional and they will have the oven looking like new!
  • If the door seal is removable, a professional oven cleaner will also be able clean the space between the glass.
  • It’s a stress-free solution. You sit back while someone else does the hard work and you know your bond is safe.
