Reduce Reuse Recycle

Who are you donating your Containers for Change cash to?

It’s so easy to recycle your drink containers and donate the cash to a community organisation or cause. Read more to find out how.

November 11, 2021

Containers for Change has been operating for over a year and is a great way of recycling and getting a bit of cash in your pocket. You receive 10 cents each for every eligible drink container. Taking part is easy, you simply register, save your eligible empty drinks containers, and claim your refund when you return your containers.

But, did you know, you can also donate the money to a school, community group or charity of your choice? Anyone in Western Australia can donate their containers by quoting the scheme ID of the community group or charity when returning containers to a refund point. You may even be able to drop off your containers to them directly if the organisation has a container collection cage or bin on site.

You’ll be making a difference to the environment and helping worthy causes at the same time. Win, win! Click on the link below to search for your favourite charity or group. If they're not registered with Containers for Change, let the group or charity know it’s a great way to raise funds.

Donate your refund

There are 4 ways you can return your empty, eligible containers:

  1. Reverse Vending Machines (RVM)
These use a scanner to read each container's barcode to check its eligibility, so the machines can’t accept crushed cans.
  1. Bag drop
Drop your containers at your local bag drop refund point.
  1. Depots
Depots allow customers to return containers and get refunds on the spot.
  1. Pop up
Refund point operators meet customers every week, fortnight, or month.
