Expert Tips

Open and shut

It’s great to open your windows to let the breeze through your home, but if you have timber windows that are warped, swollen or have rotted it might not be so easy. The good news is that timber window frames can often be repaired, so call your local, experienced carpenter. They will be able to take a look and tell you if repair or replacement is your best option.

Don't waste your time

How valuable is your time? DIY projects can take weeks or even months to complete when you’ve only got the weekends. An experienced carpenter has the tools and expertise to complete any tasks quickly and easily so you can get your weekends back and enjoy your free time.

Inside out

Need extra room but don't want to go to the expense of a home renovation? A simple solution is to extend your indoors outside! Outdoor decking is an excellent way to extend your living room or other areas of your home. Making the right choice of materials for your lifestyle and your home is important, so think carefully how you intend to use your decked area and the look you want to achieve.

Full door installation service

Replacing old or mismatched interior doors is a quick and easy way to freshen up your home, but it has to be done correctly. Installing a door can be a tricky job – it might look easy, but if you don’t get it exactly right, you might have to throw away the door and start again. Use an experienced carpenter at the start to save both time and money.

Timber window & door maintenance

There’s nothing worse than trying to force a window open or having to slam a door just to get it shut. When windows and doors aren’t working they have to be repaired, for both peace-of-mind and security reasons; well-fitting windows and doors are much more secure, and much less annoying!

Save your walls with skirting

Skirting boards were originally used to cover the joint between the wall and the floor, and also for decorative purposes. But they do more than just finish off the look of your home. They protect the bottom of your walls from everyday wear and tear, and damage from pets, kids, furniture and vacuum cleaners.

Decking decisions

When planning an outdoor deck, there is a wide range of decking materials to choose from. This includes solid hardwoods and low-maintenance composite decking. Solid hardwood timber decking looks great but can be high-maintenance. Composite decking also looks good but is man-made and won’t stain, warp or rot. So, when making your decision, there are a couple of things to consider such as the amount of maintenance you are happy to do, and how much you want to spend.

Squeaky floorboards

Squeaky timber floorboards are very annoying and can be caused by two boards rubbing against each other. For a quick fix, try dusting a bit of talcum powder or powdered graphite between them. If this doesn’t solve the issue it may not be the floorboards that are causing the problem. Sometimes squeaking is caused by the sub-floor timber framework, which supports the flooring. For this you’ll need a carpenter to check things out and fix the problem properly.
