8 signs you may be suffering from gum disease

Recent studies have shown a link between gum disease, and the risk of heart disease and diabetes. Gum disease tends to be painless but there are signs you can look out for.

Gum disease is caused by plaque, which is a sticky layer of germs that builds up on teeth. This plaque can then irritate your gums, causing them to bleed easily. Hardened plaque is called calculus or tartar and can only be removed by a dental health professional.

If you have noticed any of the following symptoms, then there is a chance that you are suffering from some sort of gum disease.

  • Bleeding gums
  • Hot & cold sensitivity
  • Bad breath
  • A metallic taste in your mouth
  • Swollen or painful gums
  • Yellow plaque build-up on the gum line
  • Indigestion or heartburn
  • Loose adult teeth

The only way to be sure that your teeth and gums are healthy, is to visit your dentist on a regular basis, then any problems can be addressed before they become more serious.
