How to Make an Aromatherapy Reed Diffuser

Incorporate the scent of your favourite essential oil in this reed diffuser. Reed diffusers are a safer alternative to oil burners and they make great gifts. You’ll find the ingredients at your local chemist.

You'll need

  • Tapered ceramic vessel (choose a vessel with a narrow neck so that the oil does not evaporate too quickly)
  • Wooden skewers
  • ¼ cup almond oil
  • 12 drops pure essential oil
  • 1 tsp rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol)

Snip the sharp ends off the skewers. Mix the ingredients together (the smell of the isopropyl alcohol wil disappear after an hour). Fill the container ¾ full and insert 5-10 reeds, the more reeds you put in the bottle the stronger the scent will be. Soak them for 30 minutes before flipping them over and inserting the other end. Store any remaining mixture in a dark glass bottle.

A weekly turn of the reeds and a swirl of the oil will keep your home smelling lovely. Whenever you decide to change the scent, wash the bottle thoroughly (vinegar gets rid of the residue) and use new reeds.
