The many benefits of LED downlights

LED stands for light emitting diodes.

LED lights are small, solid light bulbs which are extremely energy-efficient and long lasting. The benefits of using LED lighting in and around your home are many and include:

  • Cost effectiveness - lowering your power bill.
  • Safety - they are low voltage and operate at much cooler temperatures.
  • Longevity - they last up to 8-10 times longer than standard halogen lamps.
  • Efficiency – 90% more efficient, they can last between 30,000 – 50,000 hours, depending on the globe.
  • Environmentally friendly - cut greenhouse gas emissions and reduces landfill.

Instant – LED lights start with full brightness every time.

Greg and his team can help you reduce your electricity bills by replacing power burning halogen lights with modern, energy-efficient LED lighting. They are happy to offer advice and can install and/or supply top quality LED lighting for your whole home or just for one room.

RCDs

RCDs (residual current devices) save lives and are designed to protect you against electrocution. Unlike normal fuses and circuit breakers, if you or a family member touches a bare wire or faulty appliance, RCDs protect you from fatal electric shock by cutting the power in a fraction of a second.

But without regular testing, especially in coastal suburbs, the internals may corrode and not trip when needed. The test button should be pressed at least every three months and it should trip. If it doesn’t, you are not protected and they need replacing.

Life-saving hardwired smoke alarms

Are you relying on battery operated smoke alarms? Hardwired smoke alarms are mandatory in new and renovated houses, but Greg recommends older homes also have them installed. This is the best way for early smoke detection, keeping you and your family safe in the event of a fire.

With a hardwired smoke alarm, you don’t have to worry about the battery running out and the smoke alarm failing. Response Electricians offers a smoke alarm installation service and Greg can advise on the type and position of the smoke alarm for maximum effectiveness.

Electrical safety inspections

Greg recommends a safety inspection is recommended if:

  • Your property is more than 25 years old and has not had an inspection for some time.
  • You have added electrical equipment over the years (e.g. solar panels or new, hard-wired appliances such as ovens)
  • You have extended your property (e.g. new rooms/extensions/pools/spas)
  • You have older wiring in your house.
  • You have any concerns about any electrical equipment
  • You are selling your property.

Electrical safety inspections benefits:

  • Safety
  • Efficiency
  • Power saving suggestions
  • Money saving
  • Peace of mind
