Why do our shower screens get so cloudy?

Many areas in W.A. have 'hard' water. This hardness is caused by a higher than usual concentration of calcium, magnesium salts and a variety of other minerals in our groundwater. Perth’s water is very hard, particularly North of the River, due to our groundwater running through limestone.

Hard water, when left to evaporate on glass, leaves behind mineral deposit on the surface. These mineral deposits also react chemically with your glass, and even with soap and shampoos in your shower, and continue to build up with every shower use. The higher the water hardness, you’ll find you need to use more soap or shampoo when showering to form a lather (often increasing soap scum in your shower). Removing soap scum is not difficult if cleaned regularly, however, removing hard water-stain is a near impossible mission. These calcium/mineral deposit spots on your glass left unattended for years, very likely will eventually compromise the surface of your glass, creating permanent scaring.
