All homes are now legally required to have a safety switch (RCD) for both power and lighting. But if your home is more than 20 years old, you may not be aware that you don’t have one. A safety switch can save lives. It automatically shuts off the electricity supply when current is detected leaking from faulty switches, wiring or electrical appliances.
Ray will come and check your switchboard and fit RCDs if necessary, and check that any existing safey switches are working properly.
A surge arrester will protect the wiring and equipment in your home from unexpected voltage spikes which can occur in the electricity system from events such as lightning strikes or faulty power poles. Voltage spikes can damage power outlets, lighting and any equipment plugged into the system including fridges, stoves, computers and much more. Surge arresters act as a fail-safe system.
Most homes don’t seem to have enough power points. Instead, people overload existing power outlets with adaptors and extension cords, which can be dangerous. Ray can install additional power points as well as change singles to doubles so there will be enough for everyone.
Regardless of the purpose of your outdoor lighting, the benefits are all positive. From increased safety and security, to creating a warm and inviting environment, adding outdoor lighting will improve the look and value of your home. Whether you’re sitting outside on the patio or you want to highlight a feature with a spotlight, Ray can help you to get the most out of your outdoor areas.
Lighting can contribute to over 30% of a household’s total electricity bill. Ray can help you reduce this by replacing power-burning halogen lights with modern, energy-efficient LED lighting.
The benefits are many:
Like a car, you should have your home electrics checked to make sure they are performing as they should. Ray will come to your home and carry out a full electrical safety test. This will identify any problems such as overloaded electrical circuits or equipment, reveal any electrical hazards like live wires and discover any dodgy, DIY or non-compliant electrical work. Ray recommends this for older homes and homes that have been renovated.
Faulty wiring is one of the five most common causes of electrical fires. Fortunately, there are a few warning signs, so the problem can be fixed before it causes any major damage.
Power boards can be a useful way to increase the number of power outlets in your home, but only if they are used safely and correctly. Here’s what you should and shouldn’t do.
In the bathroom, the most important function of your exhaust fan is to draw warm, humid air out of the room during a hot shower, which prevents mould and mildew from forming. But your exhaust fan can still draw out your cooling and heating, even when it's switched off
When it comes to lighting your home, don't forget the outdoor areas
