What’s involved when someone joins Catch Music

Each new participant is welcomed to the group by the Music Facilitator (who is a highly skilled musician) and where possible, a Session Volunteer. After being introduced to other members, you are encouraged to be involved at a level which you are comfortable with.

Participants usually bring their own equipment, although each session does have some instruments available (keyboards, electric drum kit, guitar amps). Each session is equipped with a PA system and music stands. The Music Facilitator and Session Volunteer usually consult with the group for song suggestions and the repertoire spans a range of eras and styles.

If group members are writing their own music, there is some scope for it to be added to the session repertoire.

People of all ages can, and do, attend. Participants have a broad range of skill levels. from seasoned performers and songwriters, along with beginner musicians.  Children are normally accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Performances

Catch Music groups have performed at countless local community events. WINTER JAM and the SUPERJAM events showcase all the groups performing to wider audiences.

Workshops led by experienced Facilitators are run once or twice per term. Topics may include: songwriting; singing; ensemble skills; recording; instrumental skills (guitar, harmonica); and introduction to live sound.

They also do in-house gigs at the session venue for family and friends.

Catch Music is generously supported by Healthway’s Act-Belong-Commit programme.

Anyone can join Catch Music!

The first session is free and carers are welcome free of charge to every session.

Fees can be paid weekly for casual attendance, or in advance (at a discounted rate) if you want to come to every session in the term.

The rates are $150 per term OR $20 per week (casual).

Members can attend as many or as few sessions as they like. There are usually around 10 to 20 people in attendance at our groups (with a capped total of 25).
