6 flowering plants that will grow in any soil

Some plants wilt at the first sign of less than perfect soil conditions. Others just shrug and get on with the job of growing. We’ve got a list of flowers that will adapt as they grow.

Rather than spend loads on trying to change soil conditions to suit your plants, just choose the flowers that will suit the soil. If you don’t know where to start, we’ve found six perennials that will grow where others fear to tread!

Coreopsis

Hot, dry weather won’t stop this plant from flowering all summer long in full sun and well-drained soil. It produces large quantities of yellow, orange, pink, white, red, or bicolored blooms and the foliage varies between species.

Daylily (Hemerocallis)

Practically indestructible, daylilies will flower profusely in almost any sunny spot. They tolerate part shade, but for the best flower show, opt for full sun. They should be divided every three to four years.

Creeping Thyme (Thymus Serphyllum)

This edible ground cover releases a pleasant, minty fragrance if stepped on. It has tiny pink-purple blossoms form a rich carpet of colour as summer gets underway.

Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea)

The Purple Coneflower is a popular perennial in most gardens due to its ability to attract pollinators, its long blooming time, and its ability to grow and adapt to the worst soil conditions. The purple flowers are very pretty and look like daisies.

Salvia (Salvia spp.)

Salvia, is one of the most aromatic plants that grow in a variety of soil conditions as it adapts to the ground it is planted in. All species of Salvia are drought and heat tolerant, so they do well in full sun and well-draining soil.

English Lavender (Lavandula aufustifolia)

A popular shrubby herb that loves full sun and dry, sandy soil. This is the perfect choice for rockeries, beds, borders, and kitchen gardens.
