How to recycle your mobile phone

Old mobile phones do not belong in your kerbside bins!

July 23, 2020

Nowadays, mobile phones are an essential part of our everyday lives connecting us with family and friends, providing entertainment and managing our day. Almost nine out of ten Australians own a smartphone which means it’s really important to dispose of them responsibly.

Before taking the recycling option, it’s best to try and extend the life of your mobile phone.

  • If it’s broken or needs a new battery, take it to be repaired.
  • If it’s perfectly fine, consider hanging on to it for a bit longer.
  • If you want to upgrade your phone but it is still working, think about passing it on to a family member.
  • You could sell it and use the money to go towards your new mobile phone.

Always remove all your personal information from your phone before passing it on.

If your phone is beyond repair, it can be recycled through MobileMuster. This is an initiative funded by the major handset manufacturers and network carriers to provide free mobile phone recycling to the highest environmental standard. It is accredited by the federal government and 99% of discarded mobile phone components can be recovered, returned to the supply chain and used to produce new items.

Visit MobleMuster to find your nearest collection point.
