Face masks with ear loops can rub the backs of your ears and make them sore. Try these instead:
- Sew two large buttons onto the sides of a soft headband and loop your mask around them instead. This is also a great option for people with hearing aids, as it will prevent the hearing aid from falling out when you remove the mask.
- Tie string or elastic to the existing loops to extend them and tie at the back of your head.
- Use a hair clip, or a paper clip to hold the ear loops tightly at the back of your head.
- Choose a mask with long ties which will tie around the back of your head.
If you wear glasses and get the dreaded fog every time you breathe whilst wearing a mask, give some of these tips a go:
- Use double sided tape to stick your mask to the bridge of your nose. This way, your breath can’t escape up through the top of your mask.
- Keep your glasses forward on your nose, sitting over the top on the mask helping secure it on your face.
- Rub a drop of dish soap or liquid hand soap onto both sides of your glasses, rinse, and air dry. It will leave a transparent layer that prevents your lenses from temperature changes that cause fogging. You can also use shaving cream as a substitute for dish/hand soap.
- Fold a strip of tissue or fabric about one centimetre wide and run it along inside the top edge of your mask to absorb moisture as you breathe.
- Sew about 6cm of pipe cleaner to the inside of the top of your mask. Bend the mask to fit over your nose to prevent your breath from escaping and fogging up your glasses.
