Air-conditioners – not just for summer!

We view air-conditioners as an essential item for keeping us cool on those hot summer days. But reverse cycle air conditioners are also handy for keeping us warm in winter. Here’s how to get yours ready.

We have had some hot days this summer, so your air-conditioner has probably had a bit of a tough workout. Now is a good time to make sure your air-conditioner is ready for the arrival of the chilly winter days.

  • Your air-con filters may have gathered a lot of dirt, so they will need a good clean.  A clean filter means better air quality, a system which runs smoothly to keep you comfortable, and could also make your system last longer.

  • Clean filters can also improve the efficiency of your system by as much as 15 per cent, which means savings on your energy bill.

  • Remember to switch your unit from cooling to heating!  In winter, the ideal setting is between 18 and 22 degrees. This will keep you warm and cosy without wasting energy and pushing up your electricity bill. Every extra degree you add could increase your heating costs by up to 10 per cent.

  • Have your system professionally serviced. Your local air-conditioning expert will inspect all the components of your system, replace any required parts, and make sure it is running at maximum efficiency.
