Avoid winter hazards on your outdoor paving

Don’t let leaves pile up

Keep on top of any fallen leaves on your paving. If they are left on the ground for too long, they can rot and stain your paving.  

Weed out the weeds

Even if they’ve stopped growing, or have died, don’t leave weeds to decay and become slippery when wet.  

Tiny but dangerous

A build-up of algae, moss and lichen is a common sight on paving in winter and can result in slippery paths, which can be hazardous. It should be removed as soon as it starts to appear – it will only get worse.  

You could grab a high-pressure washer and have a go at cleaning your pavers yourself, but unless you know exactly what you are doing, you could do more harm than good and permanently damage your paving.
