Is your garden ready for the change of season?

Pruning

Pruning is one of the first jobs you can do. Remove any dead wood from hedges and larger shrubs. Trim back to get your preferred shape and promote new growth.

Trimming hedges before the onset of winter will help to keep them compact and bushy from ground level.

‍Lawns

Now is the perfect time to feed lawns. Use an easy to apply hose-on ‘weed and feed’ product and use a garden fork to spike compacted areas.

Apply a granulated wetting agent to ensure autumn rain sinks in.

Use lawn seed to repair any bare spots that have appeared in the lawn.

‍Garden beds

Deadhead the roses and apply fertiliser to encourage a final flush of flowers. In mid-autumn, tidy them up and sprayfor mildew and black spot.

Plant bulbs for spring and winter flowering plants such as Sweet Peas.

Remove spent summer-flowering annuals. Clean up garden beds and apply manure ready for the next planting.

Mulch everything and fertilise trees and plants with an appropriate product for their needs.
