First, blindfold the kids and then give them each a plate with 4-5 types of food. It can be anything and you could use a combination of food your kids already like, with some new ones to try.
For example:
- Sliced apples (or any other fruit)
- Ham
- Carrot sticks (or any vegetable)
- Cheese (any kind)
- Popcorn
Get them to try each food, to smell, feel and taste, describing it as they go. Then see if they can guess what it is without looking. It’s a great way to get kids to try new foods which they might otherwise try to avoid!
You can also ask the kids to put foods into groups once they have tried them, such as:
- Salty: potato chips, popcorn
- Sour: lemon, salt & vinegar chips
- Sweet: Marshmallows, chocolate chips
The older the kids are, the more adventurous you can get with your tasting.
Try these 10 items for the ultimate taste test plate!
- A few frozen berries
- Watermelon
- Stuffed olive
- Blue cheese
- Banana slices
- Frozen peas
- Raisins
- Baby spinach leaf
- Square of dark chocolate
- A teaspoon of whipped cream
Of course, you can just use anything you have in your fridge or pantry with different tastes and textures. It’s up to you!
