Keep your hair happy all summer

Long days in the sun, salty swims and hot breezes are lovely, but they can leave your hair feeling a bit stressed. With a few simple tweaks, you can keep it soft, strong and ready for anything the warm season brings.

Give your hair a holiday from heat

Straighteners, curlers and blow-dryers can leave your strands feeling dry at the best of times, and even more so in hot weather. Try air-drying when you can or switch to heat-free styles. Loose braids, soft waves or a casual bun can look great without any effort from a styling tool.

Rinse after swimming

Salt and chlorine love to linger, and they can make hair brittle. A quick rinse after a swim helps remove residue before it settles in. If you’re heading to the beach or pool often, consider a protective leave-in conditioner to add a little moisture back.

Cover up when you’re outdoors

A lightweight scarf, hat or cap isn’t just for skin protection. It also shields your hair from UV exposure that can weaken the cuticle and fade colour. It’s an easy way to stay cool while keeping your hair happy.

Nourish with moisture

Warm weather can sap moisture quickly. Using a hydrating conditioner with every wash helps keep hair soft and manageable. A weekly deep treatment can also work wonders, especially if your hair is coloured or naturally dry.

Be gentle after washing

Hair is more fragile when it’s wet. Instead of rubbing with a towel, gently squeeze out the water. And if you’re brushing, start from the ends and work your way up to avoid tugging.

Try protective products

Leave-in conditioners and lightweight oils can help create a barrier against the elements. Look for products formulated for summer care or colour protection and apply them before heading out.

Don’t over wash

It’s tempting to shampoo more often when it’s hot, but over washing can strip away natural oils that help protect your hair. If you feel oily between washes, a dab of dry shampoo keeps things fresh without drying your scalp.
