Oh dear - my pool has turned green!

In a perfect world, your swimming pool would be crystal clear and ready for a swim any time of the day or night. Unfortunately, your pool can turn green from an accumulation of bacteria and algae. It could be from a clogged filter, a faulty pump or simple neglect over the winter months. Here's what you can do to get your sparkling pool back.

1. Get the water tested. This will tell you what you need to add to your pool to get it in tip-top condition.

2. Test the pump to make sure it's working properly.

3. Check the skimmer box to make sure there isn't anything causing a blockage.

4. Make sure your filter is clean or replace it with a new one if it's looking a bit the worse-for-wear.

5. Loosen the dirt and algae from the walls of your pool with a brush and clean as much of the pool as you can.

6. Rebalance the pool water with the chemicals needed (according to your water test).

7. Clean your pool regularly.
