Reduce Reuse Recycle

Can you recycle dishwashing products? Yes you can!

Whether you’re old school and hand wash your dishes - or use a trusty dishwasher – here’s how you can recycle some of your dish care packaging.

August 3, 2023

TerraCycle has partnered with Fairy to help with dish care product recycling. Fairy sponsors this national recycling program making it free for everyone to participate - and it includes all brands - not just Fairy. Yay!

They will accept:

  • Dishwashing liquid bottles (including caps)

  • Dishwashing tablets flexible packaging (including snap locks and zip locks)

  • Plastic spray bottles (including spray and trigger heads)

Some bottles may also be accepted through kerbside recycling - please check with your council first. This way you’ll have more room in your package to recycle items that can’t go into your kerbside bin (such as the lids and spray/trigger heads).

You don’t need to clean the packaging before posting it off for recycling, but please remove as much of the remaining product as possible before shipping (or dropping it off at a Community Collection Hub - see below for details). Australia Post and Hubs will not accept dripping items, so please make sure your items are dry.

How it works

Collect

  1. Create a TerraCycle account and join this program. Then reuse any box you have, to start collecting your items for recycling.

  2. When your box is full, sign-in to your TerraCycle account to download and print a prepaid shipping label.

  3. Seal your box, add the prepaid shipping label, and post it to be recycled.

  4. Bear in mind that Australia Post will not accept packages weighing over 20kg.

You can also include air care packaging for recycling.

If you don’t want to post your own collection, you can search the TerraCycle website for Community Collection Hubs in Western Australia.

This program does not accept outer cardboard packaging - this can be recycled with your local council, so please don’t include this in your shipment to TerraCycle.
