Clean smarter, not harder
Use tools and products that do more with less effort.
- A microfibre cloth and a good multipurpose spray can clean glass, stainless steel, benchtops and furniture - no need to switch products.
- A vacuum with attachments can dust blinds, skirting boards and vents in one go.
- Steam mops clean and sanitise floors faster than traditional mops, with no bucket required.
Soak while you clean something else
Let cleaning products do the heavy lifting while you move on to the next task.
- Spray bathroom cleaner on tiles and let it sit while you clean the mirror and sink.
- Fill the sink with hot soapy water and soak oven trays, fridge shelves or rangehood filters.
- Apply toilet cleaner and leave it to work while you mop the floor or wipe down surfaces.
Use the ‘top-down’ method
Always clean from the top of the room down to the floor. It’s faster and stops you from having to redo anything.
- Dust ceiling fans, shelves and light fittings
- Then wipe down surfaces and furniture
- Finish with vacuuming or mopping
Declutter as you go
Don’t save decluttering for a separate day - build it into your cleaning.
- Keep a donation box or rubbish bag nearby
- Toss expired pantry items, old toiletries and anything broken
- If you haven’t used it in a year and it’s collecting dust, let it go
Freshen soft furnishings without washing everything
You don’t need to wash every curtain and cushion to make things feel clean.
- Vacuum upholstery and cushions to remove dust and pet hair
- Sprinkle bicarb soda on rugs or mattresses, leave for 15 minutes, then vacuum
- Air out pillows, quilts and throws in the sun for a natural refresh
Focus on high-impact areas
Some tasks make a bigger difference than others - prioritise those.
- Clean windows and mirrors to brighten rooms instantly
- Wipe down cupboard doors, handles and light switches
- Vacuum under furniture and in corners where dust builds up
- Change sheets and towels for an instant lift
Use time limits to stay focused
Set a timer for 20–30 minutes per room. It keeps you moving and stops you from getting stuck on one task.
- Do one room at a time, fully
- Don’t aim for perfection - aim for done
- Take breaks between rooms to avoid burnout
Finish with a reset
Once the cleaning’s done, do a few quick things to make your home feel fresh and ready for the new season.
- Open windows to let in fresh air
- Add a plant, candle or fresh flowers
- Put on clean sheets and fluff the cushions
- Step back and enjoy the difference
Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be a drawn-out ordeal. With the right shortcuts, you can get a proper deep clean done in less time - and still enjoy that fresh, reset feeling without spending your whole weekend scrubbing.
And to save even more time – get someone else to do it for you!
