Why you still need to clean your gutters in summer

Now winter has disappeared, the last thing you are probably thinking about is your gutters. But you shouldn’t ignore them. Here’s why.

Perth had the wettest October since records began and if your gutters were already clogged with debris from winter, then you could be in trouble!

By the end of a wet spring, your home’s gutters will be clogged with dirt, debris and leaves that have fallen on your roof. Summer gutter cleaning is vital preventative maintenance for your home.

  • Keeping them clean can double the life of your gutters.
  • Ensuring that your gutters remain clear of debris is the best way to prevent damage to your gutter system, roof, and house foundations.
  • Metal gutters will rust quickly if they are not cleaned. The rust will eat through the gutters and instead of diverting water to the downpipes, water will leak through the holes.
  • If gutters overflow, the water can get into your home.
  • Clean gutters mean no blocked downpipes.
  • Debris in gutters makes them heavier. This can cause them to sag or even pull out the fasteners.
  • Clogged Gutters can be breeding grounds for mosquitoes, cockroaches, spiders and even mice.
  • Dried up leaves in gutters can catch fire during bushfire season.

You should have your gutters cleaned on a regular basis to prevent problems. The more trees you have surrounding your property, the more often you need to clean them.
