10 common driving test mistakes

If you or someone you know is taking their practical driving test, here are some of the most common mistakes that are made and may lead to a fail.

  1. Not checking check blind spots, mirrors, or adequately scan the road for hazards.

  2. Drifting between lanes or not staying within the lane markers.

  3. Not giving way when merging.

  4. Not signalling or signalling too late or too early before making a manoeuvre.

  5. Failure to give way - such as at intersections and pedestrian crossings.

  6. Struggling with steering, braking, accelerating, or clutch control.

  7. Not checking for oncoming traffic or misjudging gaps when entering or crossing intersections.

  8. Driving too fast for the current road and traffic conditions.

  9. Going over the speed limit.

  10. Poor parking skills.

These are just a few of the reasons and they may vary depending on the specific circumstances and the examiner's evaluation criteria. It’s important to get lots of experience on the roads, and make sure any learner driver has a thorough understanding of road rules and safe driving.
