DIY edible finger paint

Kids love to put their fingers in their mouths, but when finger painting, this can be a problem. Until now! We have two recipes for edible finger paints with simple ingredients that can be made in minutes. Enjoy!

Recipe 1:

Ingredients

Can of condensed milk
Food colouring

Method

  • For each colour, mix 1 tbsp condensed milk with 1-2 drops of food colouring and stir until well blended.
  • If you want more of each colour, just double the amounts.
  • Put into separate containers – ice cube trays would be perfect.
  • The condensed milk takes food colouring well, so you don’t need to use a lot.

Recipe 2:

Ingredients

1 cup firmly packed marshmallows (about 12)

1/4 cup water

2 tbsp glucose syrup

Food colouring

Method

  • Place marshmallows in a bowl, and microwave for 30 seconds.
  • Stir in water and microwave an additional 30 seconds. Stir until smooth (if marshmallows are not melted, microwave in 15 second intervals until smooth, stirring in between).
  • Stir well to let the residual heat melt the marshmallows.
  • Stir until smooth.
  • Stir in the glucose syrup to desired consistency.
  • Divide the marshmallows mixture among different containers. Stir in a few drops of food colouring and let it cool long enough for kids to handle.

For both recipes you can use your fingers to paint or use new paintbrushes which have been washed. You can paint on paper the traditional way, but as these paints are edible you could also paint giant marshmallows, biscuits or an iced cake or cupcakes.

Don’t make too much, as this paint doesn’t last more than a day or two.
