  • Declutter and tidy up. Clutter can make even the cleanest space look a bit grubby. Pick up clothes, books or any other items lying around. If you're tight on space, try under bed containers or over-the-door organisers to store things neatly away.

  • Look after the oven. This is something you should be doing anyway - if you only clean it when an inspection is coming around, it will be much, much harder! How to clean your kitchen in 20 minutes.

  • When it comes to bathrooms, the key is a little, often. Once that soap scum has taken hold, if can be difficult to shift. And the longer you leave it, the more likely there is to be mouldy or crumbling grout. How to speed clean your bathroom!

  • Make sure the garden is tidy, the lawn is mowed, and any garden beds are weed-free.

  • If you park your car in the driveway, it may have oil stains or other marks. A high-pressure hose can help to remove stubborn stains and any moss that has accumulated.

  • Clean the windows and remember there's more to cleaning windows than just the glass!

  • If the property owner is okay with you having a pet - make sure there are no lingering pet smells, damage, or stains. You could also ask a friend to take your pet while the inspection takes place.

  • Check any sliding door tracks. They are like a magnet to dust, cobwebs and dead insects!

  • Make sure carpets are clean. If you do have any persistent stains, it may be worth getting a carpet cleaner in to do the job.

  • And remember - the inspection isn't just for property owners. This is a great opportunity for you to point out any damage or areas that need fixing.
