Tips on cleaning your window frames, tracks and screens

Your windows aren’t just the glass, they are the frames, tracks, and screens as well. Here are a few tips to get the best result when cleaning your windows.

Sparkling windows make your home shine, but grubby surroundings can let them down. Even if you never open your windows, dirt, dust and dead insects will find a way into your window tracks and onto your windowsills.

Tracks and sills

  • Loosen the dirt in the tracks with a small brush – a paint brush or even an old toothbrush should do the trick. brush.
  • Once the dirt is loose, vacuum it out.  
  • Wipe your windowsills with a damp cloth to remove any dust or cobwebs.   

Screens

  • If you have removable fly screens the best way to clean them is to take them out of the window, wipe them over with a soapy sponge and hose them off on your lawn. Let them air dry before putting them back.
  • If you have fixed security screens, wipe them over with a damp cloth.
