How to plan an awesome Easter treasure hunt

Just because it’s Easter doesn’t mean your kids have to overdose on chocolate and sugar! Here’s a great idea for some Easter fun that can include some chocolate and some non-edible treats!

Turn an Easter egg hunt into an Easter treasure hunt that won’t have the whole family overindulging!

Depending on the weather, you can do this indoors or outdoors. If you are hiding chocolate, make sure pets can’t reach it as chocolate is dangerous for them if consumed.

Getting started

Start with a clue to find a location; for example, ‘Go to the place where things are really cold’ (your fridge!). The difficulty of the clue should depend on age.

Have another clue waiting at that spot, which leads to the next spot and so on. If you wanted to include Easter eggs, you could put a mini-Easter treat with each clue, for each child taking part. You could also include small, non-edible treats such as stickers, glitter pens, hair clips, Lego figures etc. Give them a basket or container if they are collecting prizes along the way.

Place prizes at the final spot, such as:

  • Movie tickets
  • Larger Easter eggs
  • Colourful stationery
  • Lego
  • Toy cars
  • Jigsaw puzzles
  • Books
  • Soft toys
  • Paints

5 tips for an awesome Easter treasure hunt

Set some rules such a no running and taking it in turns to read the clues if there are a few children playing.

1. Make the clues or lists challenging but not too challenging - you want them to succeed with a smile on their face.

2. You could write the clues backwards, so the kids must find a mirror to see what they say.

3. Write the list items in anagram form so the letters must be unscrambled first.

4. Include a few riddles for older kids.

5. For younger children use pictures instead of lists or clues.

Most importantly, have fun!
