Eat balanced meals

If your meals lack protein, healthy fats, or fibre, your blood sugar levels can fluctuate, leading to sudden sugar cravings. Try eating meals with a good balance of all three to keep your energy levels stable and your sweet tooth in check.

Stay hydrated

Sometimes, what we think is a sugar craving is actually just dehydration! Before reaching for lollies or chocolate, try drinking a glass of water and waiting a few minutes - you might find the craving disappears.

Choose natural sweetness

When you do want something sweet, opt for naturally sweet foods like fruit, which provide fibre, vitamins, and minerals. A bowl of berries, a slice of watermelon, or even a banana and a few nuts can hit the spot without the sugar crash.

Get enough sleep

Lack of sleep can mess with your hunger hormones, making you crave quick energy in the form of sugar. Aim for at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night to help keep those cravings at bay.

Manage stress

Stress eating is real! When we're stressed, our bodies crave quick comfort foods, often loaded with sugar. Finding ways to manage stress - like taking a walk, meditating, or doing a hobby you enjoy - can help reduce those urges.

Keep temptations out of sight (and mind!)

If you know that having a tub of ice cream or a bag of lollies in the pantry will be too tempting, consider not keeping them at home. Instead, stock up on healthier snacks that satisfy without the sugar overload.

Chew gum or brush your teeth

A fresh, minty taste can sometimes curb the desire for something sweet. Try chewing sugar-free gum or brushing your teeth when cravings hit, to trick your taste buds.

Allow yourself a treat

Completely cutting out sugar can make you crave it even more! Instead of going cold turkey, allow yourself a small treat every now and then. Savour it slowly and enjoy every bite!
