The most important thing is to have fun with your kids (and as a bonus, they’ll probably be getting washed at the same time!).
You will need:
- Water
- Buckets
- Car wash liquid
- Cloths
- Sponges
It’s best to give everyone a bucket each to avoid disagreements. If your kids are too young to hold a sponge without dropping it, grab a clean, fluffy sports sock that they can put over their hand to make it easier.
Wash the car on the lawn or verge so the runoff isn’t wasted, and before you start washing, rinse the whole car with a hose to make sure there’s no debris that could scratch the paint work
Car washing tips
Use the two-bucket method. Fill one bucket with soapy water and another with clean water. As you remove dirt and grime, rinse off your sponge or wash mitt in the clean water. This helps reduce the amount of dirt that gets into the soapy mixture you’re using. And always use a microfiber cloth to dry your car after rinsing off to prevent streaks and water marks.
Wash the wheels first. These are often the grimiest part of the car (and great for smaller kids as they are easy to reach, and you’ll have the most sparkling wheels in the neighbourhood!).
If you don’t have a car, you could wash bikes, scooters, or outdoor toys instead.
And finally, remember that the kids probably won’t don’t do as good a job as a professional would, but it’s a great activity that they will love and remember doing with you.
