Reduce Reuse Recycle

Don’t bin it – take it to your local Repair Café!

We throw away vast amounts of stuff – even things that could be easily repaired but we don’t know how. This is where a Repair Café comes in handy – they are a place where you can have things repaired for free and keep them out of landfill. Here’s how it works.

Repair Cafes are meeting places where things are repaired at no cost, together. In your local Repair Café, you’ll find tools and materials to help you fix just about anything. You’ll also find expert volunteers, with repair skills in all kinds of fields to help or do it for you.

Visitors bring their broken items from home and together with these mending experts, fix them to extend their life. If you don’t have anything to repair, you can pop along to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and see how it all works. You can also lend a hand with someone else’s repair job or find inspiration at the reading table by looking through the books on repairs and DIY.

Why a Repair Café?

The Repair Café teaches members to see possessions in a new light and appreciate their value. Repair Café volunteers also visit schools to give repair lessons in the hope that future generations will grow up repairing rather than throwing away and buying again.

But most of all, the Repair Café just wants to show how much fun repairing things can be, and how easy it often is. Why don’t you give it a go?

Obviously sometimes an item is beyond repair, so visit our Reduce Reuse Recycle tips for how to recycle lots of different items and keep them out of landfill!
