It’s best to tackle the stain as soon as it happens and only if the item is machine washable. Use a tissue or paper towel and dab the stain to try to soak up as much of the oil as possible and then use one of the following 3 methods to remove the stain:.
- Cover the oil stain in sodium bi-carb and leave for 30 minutes. Fill a bucket with hot water and add a sprinkle of bi-carb. Put the stained item in the water and soak for 15 minutes. Dislodge any remaining bi-carb and wash as usual.
- Spray a little WD-40 on the stain and add sodium bi-carb to the affected area. Scrub the stain with a toothbrush until the bi-carb soda starts to clump. Add a drop of dish soap and scrub again. Rinse off the sodium bi-carb with clean water and wash as usual.
- Apply dish washing detergent to the stain. Scrub the area with a toothbrush until the stain begins to lift and then wash as normal. Only use this method on colour-fast fabric.
