Keep your blinds clean
Dust or grime on your blinds combined with moisture and heat from a sunny winter’s day can create the perfect conditions for mould to form. Keeping your blinds dust free and clean is your first step to avoiding mould.
Open your windows
Obviously, you don’t do this if it’s stormy and the rain will blow into your home! An open window will help to dry out any patches of moisture on your blinds.
Use the exhaust fan
Bathrooms and kitchens have the highest humidity levels, so be sure to switch on the exhaust fan while showering or cooking to provide some much-needed ventilation. Leaving the exhaust fan running for 5 minutes after you’ve finished in these rooms can be helpful too.
Open the blinds!
This can prevent condensation from forming on your windows. Your blinds help to seal in the heat in your home, but they create condensation which is the perfect breeding ground for mould spores on your blinds and window frames.
Check for window frame leaks
If cold air from outside can get in, when mixed from the warm air inside from winter heating, it’s party time for condensation. Repair any gaps or add weather stripping (available at hardware stores).
Move your indoor plants
Plants can increase a room’s humidity, so if you have lots of indoor plants close to your windows, consider moving them.
