The right way to recycle plastic plant pots

Did you know that plastic plant pots can’t be recycled through your kerbside yellow top bin? If the answer is ‘No!’ join the club! They are made of a type of plastic that needs specialist recycling, so here’s what you can do with them instead, to keep them out of landfill.

The good news is that your plant pots can still be recycled free of charge via:

CLAW Environmental

You will have to drop them off, so why not get together with a group of gardening friends and share the job of taking them for recycling. You could also put your hand up to be a collection point in your street or neighbourhood.

There are also a few ways to get more life out of them:

They are handy for cuttings – and you could swap or share with your neighbours.

They are perfect for growing microgreens to give your salads a bit of a boost! Or grow your own herbs for cooking.

You can use them to start an indoor edible garden on a sunny windowsill.

Decorate them and plant some seeds, seedlings or cuttings and give them as gifts.

If you have a stack of plastic plant pots, post them on your local Buy Nothing Facebook group.

You could leave some in a box at the end of your driveway with a ‘Free’ sign inviting people to help themselves as they are passing.
