Water less, save more!

Your garden can be a bit of a sneaky water guzzler! But with a few simple tweaks, you can water more efficiently and even trim down that water bill.

Water early in the morning

Watering early in the morning allows water to run down into the soil and reach the roots of the plant without losing too much to evaporation. Knock two minutes off each sprinkler station’s run time and you’ll also save a surprising amount of water!

Supercharge your soil

Good soil is the foundation of a healthy waterwise garden, and the healthier your soil is, the more drought resistant your plants will be. Apply a soil improver with a wetting agent and water in well until it foams. This means the wetting agent is activated and doing its job.

Mulch!

Think of mulch as sunscreen for your garden. It keeps your soil cool, reduces water evaporation, fights off weeds, and gives your garden a tidy, well-loved look. Bonus: less weeding for you! Win-win.

Water smarter, not harder

Group your plants by their water needs and set up watering zones with your irrigation system. This way, each plant gets just the right amount of water. It’s called hydro zoning, and it’s a game changer!

And remember to stick to your rostered watering days, even if you’re using a bore.

Check your sprinklers

Irrigation systems are fantastic - when they’re working properly. A dead plant might be a sign something’s wrong with your sprinklers. So, before summer well and truly hits, do a quick check:

  • Run a test to spot any issues.

  • Look for broken or sun-damaged sprinkler heads.

  • Check for blockages if any sprinkler isn’t spraying.

  • Tighten any loose sprinkler heads.

  • And finally, make sure the sprinklers are watering the garden, not the house, driveway, or car!

These little changes can make a big difference - both for your garden and your water bill!
