Small changes, big impact!

Helping the environment can seem like a daunting task, but even the tiniest actions can make a difference. Here are 3 small changes that will make a real difference.

We all know that saving the planet can feel like a huge, daunting task, but guess what? Even the tiniest actions can make a big difference.

Turn off the tap when brushing

Did you know that leaving the tap running while you brush your teeth can waste around 30 litres of water in just three minutes? Now, if you brush twice a day (which dentists recommend), that’s 21,000 litres of fresh water literally down the drain every year.

So, what can you do? This is really so easy and requires the absolute minimum effort.

Wet your toothbrush, turn off the tap, apply toothpaste, and brush away. When you’re done, turn the tap back on to rinse. It’s such a small change, but the impact is huge. Not only are you conserving water (enough to fill up a small swimming pool each year!) but you’re also reducing the energy needed to pump and treat that water.

Choose a reusable coffee cup

We all love our morning caffeine fix, but those disposable coffee cups are a real problem. If you grab a takeaway coffee every day, you’re sending over 300 disposable cups to landfill each year. And it’s not just the cups – it’s the lids and the plastic linings that are hard to recycle and can take years to decompose.

But here’s an easy fix – switch to a reusable coffee cup. There are so many stylish and practical options out there, from insulated stainless-steel mugs that keep your coffee hot for hours to collapsible silicone cups that fit right in your bag.

It's a super simple way to keep 12,000 coffee cups out of landfill over the course of your working life.Plus, many coffee shops offer discounts if you bring your own cup, so you’ll save some money too. It’s a small change that makes a big difference, one sip at a time.

Ditch the bottled water

Last but certainly not least, let’s tackle bottled water. It can take 3 litres of water to produce just 1 litre of bottled water. Plus, if those plastic bottles aren’t recycled properly, they can do some serious damage to the environment. Millions of plastic bottles end up in our oceans each year, harming marine life and polluting our waters.

The solution? Use a refillable water bottle. There are so many benefits to making the switch. Not only are you helping to save one of our most precious resources, but you’re also reducing the demand for single-use plastics. Refillable bottles come in a variety of materials – stainless steel, glass, BPA-free plastic – and you can find one that suits your style and needs. Some even come with built-in filters for extra convenience.

By carrying your own bottle, you’re also more likely to drink more water throughout the day, keeping you hydrated and healthy. You’ll save money by using something you can get for free from the tap, avoid plastic waste, and reduce your carbon footprint. It’s a win-win!

Remember, every little bit helps and we can make a big difference one small change at a time.
