The perfect time to check for termites

Perth is a termite hotspot and termite activity is a year-round process; but there are times when their behaviour can be a little bit more predictable.

A winter termite inspection can locate where termites are feeding. They don't stop being active or hungry in winter, but they slow down and travel shorter distances making it more likely for them to choose a termite bait instead of food sources which are further away.

This makes winter the perfect time to intercept them before they start chomping their way through your home. When the warmer weather arrives, termites start to multiply and travel further looking for food sources, making them harder to locate and control.

Termites don’t take a break

Unlike many pests that disappear when the temperature drops, termites stay active all year. They just dig deeper into warm, sheltered areas - like inside your walls or under the floorboards - where they’re harder to spot. That makes winter a good time to catch the signs that something’s not right.

You’re around the house more

When it’s cold and wet outside, most of us spend more time indoors. That also means you're more likely to notice the little things - like a soft spot in the floor, a strange tapping sound, or some tiny cracks in the plaster. These can all be clues that termites are nearby.

Fewer distractions from other pests

In summer, there’s usually a lot of pest activity to deal with - flies, mozzies, ants and cockroaches can be everywhere. It’s easy to miss the subtle signs of termites. In winter, with fewer pests buzzing about, you’ve got a better chance of picking up on the quiet damage termites cause.

More time to fix any problems

If you find termites in winter, there’s time to sort it out before they become more active in spring. Early treatment can stop serious damage and save you money in the long run. It’s much better to catch it now than wait until things get worse.

A winter check-up makes sense

Getting a professional inspection during winter is a smart move. Pest inspectors use specialised tools to detect activity that isn’t visible to the naked eye. They’ll check all the spots termites love to hide in, giving you peace of mind that your home’s in good shape.

Remember:

  • Termites never stop being active or hungry!

  • In winter they slow down to stay warm.

  • Your warm and cosy home is the perfect place for them to have a winter break!

  • Termites can remain in your home for years if not treated effectively.

Termites cause more damage to Australian homes than storms, fires and burglaries combined, and your house insurance won't cover you for termite damage. This is why it's so important to have to have a regular termite inspection whatever the season.
