Tips for a successful wildflower garden
- Choose some plants for their flowers and some for their foliage for a spectacular display.
- Include plants of different heights. There are many beautiful small trees to add interest.
- Group similar plants together, especially those with similar watering requirements.
- Use a soil wetting agent for good germination.
- Use a bit of fertiliser (suitable for native plants) to promote rapid growth.
How to choose the right fertiliser for your garden
Here is a list of wildflowers to grow in your garden from the Wildflower Society of WA
Criteria used to select the plants to list are:
- They must be attractive – with showy flowers or interesting leaves.
- You have a fair chance of getting them at least from one of the specialist nurseries.
- Once established, they can be grown with little watering.
- They are from Western Australia. Our plants are more likely to be adapted to our climate, less likely to become weeds, and more likely to support local wildlife.
Local native plants will attract a variety of birds and insects to your garden. Some of these varieties include a large range of grevilleas, bottlebrush, and other flowering plants. Invite more birds into your garden
