How to make your oven last longer

Gone are the days when you bought an appliance and expected it to last a lifetime. But there are things you can do to make sure it lasts as long as it can.

  1. If your oven is electric, make sure it is connected to a surge protector. Then if there's a sudden power surge it won't be damaged.

  2. Keep it clean and wipe up spills as soon as they happen. If you don't your oven has to work harder to do its job, using more energy and potentially ruin dinner by smoking! Why smoking is bad for your oven

  3. Keep an eye on the oven seals which can erode over time and make your oven less efficient. If they are wearing out, have them replaced.

  4. Put a baking tray on the lower rack of your oven to catch any overflow from cooking.

  5. Clean your oven racks regularly. This can be done by putting them in your dishwasher or washing them by hand.

  6. Just like cars, ovens need maintenance to keep them working efficiently- so have a professional clean at least once a year.
