How to recycle your preloved sports equipment

Did you get nagged by your kids for sports gear, only for it to be discarded after a couple of months? Or have they just outgrown it? Rather than having it clutter up your home, donate it to a brilliant cause.

Fair Game Australia delivers unique health and fitness programs and pre-loved sports equipment to remote and under-serviced Western Australian communities. By supporting these communities, Fair Game aims to remove barriers to taking part in sport and fitness activities while having a positive social and environmental impact.

They always need:

  • AFL footballs, soccer balls & basketballs
  • Footy boots
  • Soccer shin pads
  • Runners/sneakers
  • Tee ball bats, mitts & balls
  • Track shoes
  • Cones
  • Boxing gloves/focus pads
  • Dodgeballs
  • Hula hoops
  • Large sports bags in good condition (e.g., cricket bags)
  • Sets of team bibs

They often get requests for other equipment, so if you think you have something that would be of use, please contact Fair Game.

They can replace laces, insoles, and grips on racquets/bats, but if items are broken, worn out or out of date (such as old-style tennis racquets), they can’t be redistributed.

Unfortunately, they cannot accept the following items:

  • Sports clothing and uniforms (except team sets of bibs)
  • Helmets (baseball, cricket, or bike – due to safety reasons)
  • Golf clubs
  • Trophies or medals
  • Hats
  • Used drink bottles
  • Large items such as fitness machines, bikes etc.
  • Backpacks
  • Any item that is broken or worn out.
  • How to recycle worn out sports shoes

Please be mindful that sports equipment design and materials continue to evolve and improve over the years, so if you have ‘vintage’ items, they are unlikely to be suitable for current use.
