4 signs you need to go towel shopping!

We’re not talking about massive holes and fraying on your towels (which are the more obvious signs!); we’re talking about signs that are a bit more subtle!

  1. If towels aren’t dried properly or if they’ve been in contact with moisture for long periods (such as a steamy bathroom) they may have managed to attract some bacteria or mould. So, if your towels smell a bit musty, even after washing, it’s probably best to replace them.
  2. Towels are made to be highly absorbent (one of the essential qualities of a towel!), so if you’re still feeling a bit damp after towel drying, it's sign that the fibres are breaking down and they have lost their drying qualities.
  3. Frequent washing and use of harsh detergents can affect the original softness in your towels. So, if they’re feeling rough, scratchy or it’s feels like you’re drying yourself with sandpaper, it may be time to invest in new ones.
  4. Towels that have lost their vibrant colours or have become dull and faded over time are a clear indicator that they are reaching the end of their lifespan. Continuous exposure to sunlight, frequent washing, and the use of bleach can cause colours to fade.

While the life of a towel depends on various factors, such as quality, how often they are used and how you look after them. Ideally, they should be replaced every two to three years, but to make them last a bit longer:

  • Follow the care instructions.
  • Make sure they are thoroughly dry.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals or excessive heat during laundering.
  • Ditch the fabric softener which can reduce their absorbency.
  • Store them in a dry place.

And when your towels have reached the end of their life – it’s easy to recycle them!
