What you'll need
Creating liquid chalk paint is super simple and you probably have most of the ingredients already.
-
Cornflour: This is the base of your chalk paint.
-
Water: To mix with the cornflour and create the right consistency.
-
Food colouring: To add a splash of colour to your paint.
-
Bowls, cups or a muffin tray: For mixing the paint.
-
Paintbrushes: Any size will do, but bigger brushes are great for little hands.
-
A mixing spoon: To stir everything together.
How to make your liquid chalk paint
-
Mix the cornflour and water. Start equal amounts of both. The quantity you make will depend on how many different colours you want to use.
-
Stir them together until the mixture is smooth. If it’s too thick, just add a bit more water; if it's too watery add a bit more cornflour.
-
Divide your mixture into separate bowls, cups or muffin tray sections, if you want to make different colours. Add a few drops of food colouring to each and stir until the colour is evenly mixed.
-
Get creative with the colours - mixing them can create some fantastic new shades!
-
Now that your chalk paint is ready, it’s time for the kids to unleash their creativity. Grab some paintbrushes and let them start painting on the pavement, driveway, or even large sheets of paper
Here's why kids love it
-
Kids love the bright colours, and because it’s washable, they can experiment and create without any worry.
-
Let’s face it, kids love to get messy, and this paint allows them to do just that - without the stress of permanent stains.
-
They can paint anything they can imagine, from rainbows to dinosaurs, and even practice their ABCs and numbers.
-
It’s a great excuse to get the kids outside, enjoying some fresh air while they express themselves.
-
Because the paint is made from cornflour and food colouring, it washes away easily with water. Just hose down the driveway/pavement when they’re done.
