Banish the winter blues before they begin

Summer activities, whether it's days at the beach or backyard BBQs, can leave your home in need of a deep clean. Sand in unexpected places, a buildup of dust, and general wear and tear are all signs that it's time for an autumn clean. As the days get shorter and the weather cooler, sprucing up your space can genuinely lift your spirits. Think of it as prepping your cosy nest for those snug winter nights in.

Before you start, sit down and make a list of all the rooms in your home and what needs to be done in each. It's a great feeling when you get to tick those chores off the list once they're complete!

Declutter and donate

Wave goodbye to your bathers and shorts and hello to cosy knits. It's time to store your summer gear and dig out your autumn/winter woollies. While you're doing this it's a great time to declutter anything you haven't worn in a while. You'll feel lighter, and who knows, maybe you'll find that thing you lost last spring.

Out of sight

Don't forget about all those areas you can't see, such as the tops of kitchen cupboards or behind appliances. Greasy, grimy areas can be a 'welcome' sign for pests in winter.

Outsmart the sneezes

As we close our windows against the cool air, our homes can become hotspots for dust and allergens. An autumn clean is your chance to combat this, focusing on areas like bedding, curtains, and upholstery. It’s not just about a clean home; it’s about a healthier living space where you can breathe easy, all winter long.

Bedding bonanza

Get prepared for the cooler nights by digging out your doonas and blankets that have been stored over summer. If your warmer stuff has been in storage, it might need a good wash before it goes on the bed.

Pantry clearout

Take some time to clear out your pantry. Ditch the expired, and make room for hearty winter staples.

Don't forget outdoors

Clean up your outdoor areas before it gets too cold. A little effort now means you can enjoy your outdoor spaces on those crisp, sunny autumn days.

Make it fun!

Get the family involved - everything's more fun with a team. Assign tasks based on age and ability, and maybe even turn it into a friendly competition.

Reward yourself

Set up little rewards for completing tasks or sections of your home. Finished the kitchen? Time for a coffee break with a treat.

Before and after

Take before and after photos. There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing the fruits of your labour. Plus, it’s great motivation for next time!
