More bags, more love!
Launched by the Australian charity Share the Dignity, It’s In The Bag encourages Australians to donate handbags filled with essential hygiene items for women and girls in need. These bags contain toiletries, sanitary products, and a few thoughtful extras to bring a little joy during the festive season. They are distributed to women and girls by local charities just in time for Christmas, offering a helping hand and a reminder that they are not forgotten.
Last year, thousands of bags were donated, but this year, the charity hopes to see an even bigger response, especially in Western Australia. Your contribution can help ensure that no woman or girl feels left behind this Christmas.
How you can get involved
Participating is easy. All you need is a new or excellent-quality pre-loved handbag. Fill it with essentials such as sanitary products, soap, toothpaste, roll on deodorant, and a little luxury item like a scarf, a fabric facemask or even a handwritten note, and drop it off at a designated collection point. There are three types of bags you can donate:
-
Women’s Bag: Filled with essentials for an adult woman.
-
Teen Bag: Targeted at younger girls, these bags should include age-appropriate sanitary products and extras.
- Mum & Bub Bag: Designed for mothers and their babies, including nappies and baby wipes in addition to essentials for the mother.
If you are creating a Teen or Mum & Bub bag, please tag your bag using a ribbon or a downloadable tag from the website. This tag will show the type of bag you have created. Teen bags should have a yellow tag/ribbon, and Mum & Bub bags a purple tag/ribbon.
More ways to help
If you're keen to make an even bigger impact, here are a few additional ways to help:
-
Spread the word: The more people know about the campaign, the more bags can be collected. Tell your family, friends, and co-workers, and encourage them to get involved.
-
Share on social media: Post about your donation and use hashtags like #ItsInTheBag and #ShareTheDignity to inspire others to join.
-
Host a packing party: Gather a group to pack multiple bags together. It’s a fun and rewarding way to contribute as a community.
If you’re short on time but would still love to help, you can donate money and Share the Dignity will use to purchase more bags and supplies.
This initiative is about much more than just giving physical items - it's about dignity, kindness, and connection. By taking the time to create a bag, you're telling someone, 'You are important, and you are cared for'.
That simple act of kindness can make an enormous difference to someone’s life.
Collection points will open at Bunnings stores from Nov 15th - Dec 1st, 2024
