Make your dad his own playlist

Create a playlist of his favourite songs or introduce him to some new music that you think he'll enjoy.

Have a family game night

Host a family game night with your dad’s favourite board games or video games. Or go old-school and play charades. It's a great way to bond and have some family-friendly competition (no cheating!).

Movie marathon

Set up a cosy movie marathon at home featuring his favourite films or a series he loves. You could even create your own cinema experience at home. Don't forget the popcorn and choc-tops!

Outdoor adventure

If your dad loves the outdoors, plan a fun adventure like hiking or fishing, (or even a picnic in a local park if he’s only a bit outdoorsy!).

Give him a tour!

Be his guide for the day and play at being a tourist in your own city. There’s so much to do and see, and lots of it is free!

Cook up some love

Prepare a special meal at home. Cooking your dad's favourite dish or trying out a new recipe can be a delightful surprise. And don’t forget a yummy dessert! Have a look at our easy recipes for some ideas.

Start a family tree

Ask family members if they know anything about your dad’s side of the family – you can always add to it together further down the track but get started with a couple of generations.

Help with home improvement

If there's a small home improvement project that your dad has been wanting to tackle, offer your help and spend the day working together.

Write him a letter

Write him a letter or a card telling your dad what you love about him and why.

Get creative with spice

Make your own BBQ spice rub and put it in a jar to crown him king of the BBQ when the season arrives.

Family photo

Replace the wallpaper on your dad’s computer with a family photo. It will be a lovely surprise when he logs on for the day.

Let him choose!

Instead of planning everything out for him, let your dad decide what he wants to do. You can offer some suggestions or let him come up with something himself. And you must do whatever it is he has chosen (with a smile)!

TV control!

For a bit of Father’s Day fun, let your dad be in charge of the TV remote control all day! You could even wrap up the remote and give it to him as a gift!
