You will need:
- White flowers (such as carnations, daisies, roses – or anything white that’s growing in your garden).
- Water
- Food colouring
- Small containers – one for each flower
Getting started:
- Fill the containers with water – about half full.
- Add a few drops of food colouring (more if you are using large containers), choosing different colours for each one.
- Carefully cut the stems of the white flowers at an angle and place one in each container.
- After a couple of hours, you should be able to see a slight colour change in the flowers.
- Allow the flowers to sit undisturbed for a few hours or overnight for a more dramatic change.
- The stems act as pathways for water and nutrients to travel up to the petals. Kids can see how the vibrant colours travel through the petals, creating mesmerising patterns and shades.
