Layer up!

  • Thermal tops and leggings made from moisture-wicking materials like merino wool or synthetic blends are ideal.

  • Add a fleece or wool jumper. These materials trap heat efficiently while still being breathable.

  • Wool or thermal socks can keep your feet warm. For indoors, invest in a pair of comfortable snuggly slippers.

Cosy bedding

  • Flannelette sheets can make a big difference in warmth compared to regular cotton sheets.

  • Grab a warm doona/quilt.

  • Weighted blankets provide therapeutic benefits and an extra layer of warmth thanks to their heavy material.

Keep the warm inside

  • Make the most of any winter sun by opening curtains and blinds during the day to let in sunlight which can naturally warm your home.

  • Heavy curtains or thermal blinds can add an extra layer of insulation so keep them closed at night to keep any warmth in.

  • Check for drafts around windows, doors, and other openings. Use weather stripping or draft excluders to prevent cold air from coming in.

Stay active

  • Move! Try some light indoor exercises like stretching or yoga to keep your blood circulationg and generate warmth.

  • Vacuuming, sweeping, or other household chores can keep you moving and warm up your muscles.

Food and drink

  • Sip on hot drinks like herbal teas, coffee, or hot chocolate throughout the day (yum!).

  • Enjoy hearty soups and casseroles, which can warm you from the inside out.

Add some warm and fuzzies

  • Place rugs or carpets on hard floors to add insulation.

  • If available, use a fireplace or wood stove to heat up a room.

  • Lit candles (placed safely) can provide a surprising amount of warmth.

  • Use throws and blankets for chairs and sofas

  • The humble hot water bottle provides a long-lasting boost of warmth. A high-quality hot water bottle, complete with a fluffy cover, is the best bedtime companion. As well as providing warmth and comfort, they are brilliant for soothing aches and pains.

  • Staying in never felt so good with super soft dressing gowns and robes – it's the ultimate way to stay warm without the need for heating. The only downside is having to take it off when you leave the house! You could go one step further and grab a blanket with sleeves!
